The Lithos typeface family was designed by Carol Twombly in 1989. She based her designs on 4th century B.C. letter forms found on the temples of ancient Greece. Lithos is a display typeface meant for use in titles. It has a playful asymmetric quality and conveys a homemade chiseled look. Books about African Americans and Southwestern cultures use Lithos for its "ethnic" feel, even if its the wrong ethnicity. The San Jose Sharks have used it jackets and mugs. McDonald's and Taco Bell have used it in ads. MTV used it extensivly for awhile. Lithos can be a good choice wherever an exotic, playful or primitive feeling is the desired result.
